I am a south Indian from Bangalore

Jade Letters, Dec 2009
Letters

I am a south Indian from Bangalore. Like most of the people from my generation, I didn't particularly flaunt my south Indian roots. The stereotyping from Hindi movies, the constant barbs about us being dark skinned, speaking English with a unique accent, all added up to the discomfort of being one. Till Jade came along. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for opening my eyes to the glorious south. Gifts from the south, in your anniversary issue is something I keep flaunting to the world at large, the ones who don't know about the greatness of the south, and to see a gorgeous south Indian like

LettersAishwarya Rai on the cover is an added bonus! Give us more such stories and you have a lifetime reader!

I can challenge anyone in this country to show me a lifestyle magazine better than Jade. In terms of printing quality, the articles or the photographs, it is outstanding in every way. The August issue was my first experience. I was completely bowled over. What an interesting mix of articles. From then on, I?ve followed Jade keenly, and not once has it disappointed me. The anniversary issue was truly special, from the lifelike cover picture of Aishwarya to each and every article in it. To know that my south has contributed so much to the world gives me goosebumps. Hats off to you, for giving south India such a wonderful platform. Wish you all the best!

One year later, Jade is as fresh as ever. It has been 'Southern Comfort' and more. My discovery of India, has taken on a new dimension. The anniversary issue was the perfect buffet of the India, that I knew so little about. The glorious photographs along with the crisp style of writing, has been a welcome change. Jade truly has a life of its own. Its unique essence is lingering and reading has become a heady pleasure. I have discovered more than I could imagine, and have decided that South India needs to be unplugged to bring out its core aura. My bags are packed and I need to go. Down South, I hope to rediscover the India that I have been isolated from.
